FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
Carlsbad CA, USA - August 20, 2007—Today, Thomson
Scientific, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC)
and leading provider of information solutions to the worldwide
research and business communities, ships a major upgrade to EndNote®
for Windows—the bibliographic management software used by millions
of researchers, librarians and students to publish their research. EndNote XI introduces custom groups to view and manage subsets of
references, new Cite While You Write(TM) integration with Microsoft®
Word 2007, seamless connectivity with EndNote Web to simplify
collaboration with colleagues, and more.
“EndNote X1 delivers many highly requested features that simplify
the way references are viewed, organized and searched,” said Keith MacGregor, EVP Academic and Government Markets, Thomson Scientific.
“Now users can create subsets of references—just as they do with
music playlists and collaborate with others using the combined power
of EndNote and EndNote Web, available via ISI Web of Knowledge at
most academic institutions.”
Group References for Instant Access
With EndNote X1 users can drag and drop references into subject
folders for immediate access to subsets of references. Each
EndNote library can have up to 50 custom groups, and
action-specific groups are created automatically for search
results, file imports and reference transfers from EndNote Web,
the new Web-based research and writing tool. Now users can access
their groups instantly and manage their references more
efficiently.
Cite While You Write(TM)
with Microsoft Word 2007 for Windows
EndNote XI utilizes the new Microsoft Word 2007 ribbon technology,
providing users with intuitive access to Cite While You Write™
commands. Cite While You Write allows users to locate citations and
create bibliographies instantly while writing in Microsoft Word. In
Word 2007 the frequently used commands are organized on an EndNote
tab, making them easy for the user to find and select when citing
references in scholarly papers.
Collaborate with colleagues and students
using EndNote Web
EndNote X1 integrates seamlessly with EndNote Web, a Web-based basic
bibliographic tool available as an institutional subscription. For
the millions of graduate students and researchers who depend on the
high performance capabilities of EndNote, integration with EndNote
Web provides a way to manage references when away from their desktop
computers. EndNote users can collaborate with colleagues and
students by sharing EndNote Web folders. And users can cite
references from both EndNote and EndNote Web in a single paper and
transfer libraries easily. Now EndNote users can be even more
productive with the combination of EndNote and EndNote Web.
More New Features
EndNote X1 provides time-saving enhancements that are tailored to
how researchers work today. Users can now view all authors for a
reference in the main list display, and organize up to 45 files—PDFs,
graphics, PowerPoints and more—per reference using the “file
attachment” field. Custom reference types can be exported and
imported between computers easily, so users can transfer their
personal settings between computers.
EndNote X1 also includes new and updated files for searching online
resources, importing references and formatting bibliographies—1,500+
connections to online sources, 600+ import filters and over 2,800
publishing styles. These and other improvements requested by
students, researchers and scholarly writers make EndNote the favored
reference management solution for millions worldwide.
Pricing and Availability
EndNote X1 is designed for Windows 2000, XP and Vista. The list
price of EndNote X1 is $299.95 USD. Students in North America can
