6: I am having problems saving my output style, or after saving the style I am getting errors. How do I fix this? |
Answer: Your user account may not have proper permissions to the style folder location, which can cause errors. Your network administrators may have also restricted access to this location.
Note: In Windows Vista with versions prior to EndNote X2, without disabling Vista security features, users will not be able to modify or add files to the default directory.
Here are the steps to resolve the problem:
- Quit EndNote

Open the current EndNote Styles folder and copy the style files from the Styles folder from:
- EndNote X2:
Note: EndNote X2 by default creates a user folder for content files in Documents, so the issue should not happen frequently with this version.
Windows Vista
C:\Users\(your login)\Documents\EndNote\Styles
Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\(your login)\My Documents\EndNote\Styles
EndNote X1 and earlier:
Windows:
C:\Program Files\Endnote (n)\Styles
Where (n) is the version number.
Mac:
Macintosh HD:Applications:Endnote (n):Styles
Where (n) is the version number.
Place a copy of this folder in your "Documents" (called "My Documents" in Windows 2000/XP) folder, or any location where you have full read-write access. -
Restart EndNote and go to the EndNote Preferences. On Windows, Preferences can be found at the bottom of the "Edit" menu. On an OS X system, the Preferences can be found in the "EndNote" menu. Then go to the Folder Locations option.

For the Styles folder option, select the "Select Folder" option and then select the new location for your styles. Click Save, then Click Ok.
